Benzene

Benzene is a chemical that is well known to many different people. Its structure is composed of six carbon and six hydrogen atoms. The carbon atoms are all bonded to each other and create a hexagonal ring. All of the structures that have this ring shape are derivatives of benzene and are referred to as aromatic hydrocarbons because they contain carbon and hydrogen and also have the same sweet odor that benzene is known to give off.

Benzene Poisoning

There are many different chemical properties possessed by benzene and one of these properties is the ability to cause cancer. In order to cause cancer it has to first be ingested by the person and this type of cancer causation is referred to as benzene poisoning. Benzene poisoning can happen in any number of ways but most commonly occurs in two separate ways.

The first way it occurs is in the workplace. Many different companies end up with a lot of benzene as a waste product and because of this many workers get benzene poisoning. Even people that do not work near benzene can still become infected by it through ingesting an object that has become contaminated with benzene. The most common occurrence of this is probably an infected drinking supply. Before the regulation of benzene this was a problem in a number of small towns because of the unscrupulous dumping of benzene by companies into nearby rivers.

Legalities of Benzene Poisoning

If you believe that your benzene poisoning was the result of one of the above two scenarios then it is quite possible that you will want to file a lawsuit. In order to file a lawsuit, it is strongly recommended that you contact a lawyer immediately in order to discuss the situation. A lawyer will be able to help you receive financial compensation for your medical expenses.
