National Appeals Attorneys Introduction:
After losing a trial, the defending party may not have any reasonable choice other than to appeal the decision of the court. However, many people do not understand how different the appeal process is from that of a trial. Just as you would select an attorney appropriate to your case for a trial, so would you select an appellate attorney to provide guidance for the appeals process.
In a regular trial, the attorney utilizes skill in oral arguments and charisma to win over the opinions of a jury of your peers. An appeals attorney will be facing a panel of judges that are more educated in legal matters then the average jury member. The majority of the arguments are submitted in writing rather than orally and development of a case relies on building the argument with legal reference to similar cases and precedents as well as the inclusion of trial transcripts. If there is likely that the trial case will be lost, an appeals attorney should be hired early to ensure that the case is properly prepared. Even if the loss is unexpected and an appeals attorney was not hired before the trial, the appeals attorney should be hired immediately after the trial and no later.
