National Legal Information Services Introduction:
Legal information services are available at local libraries and most county court or law school libraries. Those who haven’t gone to law school and know nothing about the law can use legal information services to resolve or prevent conflicts. Sources are available to help teach non-lawyers about the legal system and what to do in different cases and scenarios. Legal information services are organized in jurisdictions, codes and texts.
Universities offer legal information services through self-help books, texts and internet access. Most of the law books are cited in order by volume number, book and page. Encyclopedias are also available to sift through for different legal matters and cases. The internet is the most popular place to receive legal information services through legal web sites – though it isn’t the most reliable or the most resourceful outlet for legal information services.
Legal information services can be found in the following places:
Depository libraries
Internet
Practice aids and form books
Articles
Reports
Digests
Non-legal experts can find out about court rules and codes when searching through legal information service mediums. Attorneys are sometimes sought for advice and consultation before proceeding with any legal matters.
