The residents of an apartment complex in Toronto are filing a one hundred million dollar lawsuit against a hydro provider, claiming that it was the firm’s fault that a fire erupted at the apartment complex, which then resulted in the residents having to evacuate their homes and find alternative accommodation.<\/p>\n
The lawsuit is being filed against Toronto Hydro. Residents claim that the company was to blame for a fire that broke out in the basement of the complex in July of this year, and many were forced to move out of their homes for up to a month in some cases.<\/p>\n
Ted Charney of Falconer Charney LLP, one of the three firms representing the tenants, stated: “We have around 30 to 40 residents who have completed questionnaires with our law firm showing an interest in participating in the class action. We’re getting more everyday.”<\/p>\n
He added: “Residents are only moving in now and we suspect that most of the residents will find out that most of their personal belongings are not salvageable and they’ll have to replace them all. Most of these people can’t afford to do the extensive type cleaning where they could live in them and it doesn’t sound like the owner of the building is going to do anything except ask for a rent cheque.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
