Having an unchaperoned party when their parents leave town for the weekend is almost a rite of passage for American teenagers\u2014and most certainly a staple of Hollywood movies. Few parties, however, do the sort of damage that occurred at an out-of-control East Bridgewater, Massachussetts bash.<\/p>\n
The party, which occurred last month, is said to have caused over $45,000 worth of damage. Four teenagers have been arrested for their alleged involvement in planning the party, and face various charges related to vandalism.<\/p>\n
East Bridgewater Police Detective Michael Jenkins called the scene \u201ctotal destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was blood, urine, food, all over the floors,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The home’s owners left for Paris in late February, leaving a key with their son\u2014who stayed with neighbors\u2014so that he could keep an eye on the house. On the evening of February 20th, the son went to the house with some friends, where he encountered a person identified by police only as \u201ca juvenile.\u201d The juvenile was playing basketball at the home, and after striking up a conversation with the son, encouraged him to throw a party. Four cars full of people, invited by the juvenile, showed up. Later the party’s numbers swelled to between 50 and 100 people after the juvenile logged into his Facebook account and advertised the party, providing the address of the home.<\/p>\n
According to Jenkins, the teenagers in attendance at the party \u201ctrashed\u201d the house. They kicked down doors, smashed antique furniture, broke marble countertops and urinated on mattresses, floors and other surfaces. The family’s truck, which was parked in the driveway, was stolen and similarly damaged.<\/p>\n
The party was not reported until two days later, at which point, said Jenkins, \u201cthe stench was unbearable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Three teenagers will be charged as adults, and one as a juvenile. It was not immediately clear whether the juvenile facing charges is the same one who instigated the party.<\/p>\n
The three teenagers being charged as adults were identified by police as Daniel Peterson, 18; Michael Edwards, 17; and Gersham Grossman, 18. Peterson and Edwards face felony charges of malicious destruction. Grossman is being charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, which is a misdemeanor, and a felony charge of malicious destruction to a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n
The juvenile faces multiple charges, including larceny and malicious destruction.<\/p>\n
One of the teens created a page on Facebook to brag about the event, calling himself and his friends the \u201cHomewrecker Crew.\u201d<\/p>\n
The investigation, which has taken four to five weeks, may still yield additional results. \u201cWe feel that there were more kids that were involved in the destruction,\u201d said Jenkins.<\/p>\n
