Eight Killed in Georgia Trailer Park, No Suspects

Brunswick, GA—Authorities in Georgia are remaining tight-lipped about any possible developments in a murder investigation that stemmed from a weekend slaying.Police were called to the New Hope Mobile Home Park in Brunswick on Saturday, after nine people were found shot. Seven were pronounced dead on the scene, and one later died in the hospital. Nineteen-year-old Michael Toler, the victim who passed away at the hospital, was the only one identified by police. He had lived in the home where the bodies were found. The last victim was in critical condition at a local hospital.

Police do not have any suspects in custody. Glynn County Police chief Matt Doering said Sunday, “We are not looking for any known suspects. That doesn’t say that there are no suspects. They’re just not known to us.” Anyone with knowledge of the crime has been asked to come forward.

And while police do not yet have a suspect in custody, they did arrest one man connected to the scene. Guy Heinze, 22, who is related to one of the victims and who called police when he discovered the bodies upon arriving home, was taken into custody and arrested Saturday night on suspicion of having a controlled substance and marijuana, evidence tampering, and making false statements to a police officer.

“We’re still looking for anybody and everybody that may be related to this,” Doering said. “That naturally includes [Heinze]. Of course we’re looking at him.” Heinze, however, was not considered a suspect at this point.

Autopsies were being conducted on the bodies Sunday and Monday in Savannah. The victims, who have been tentatively identified, but whose names have not been disclosed to members of the media because family members hadn’t yet been notified, ranged in age from children to adults in their mid-40s.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information connected to the case.
