Sex Offender Sentenced for Posing as 12-year-old Pupil

A sex offender with boyishly young looks believed he could pose as a 12-year-old boy. He was proven right for a while when he was able to enroll in several Arizona junior high school schools, but was eventually sentenced Tuesday to 70.5 years in prison.

The criminal, Neil Havens Rodreick II pleaded guilty last year to seven charges, mostly because of child pornography, but also for enrolling into several schools for two years.

Rodreick, 31-years-old, was speechless at his Prescott, Arizona sentencing, and only shook his head when asked if he had anything he wanted to say.

Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Thomas Lindberg referred to Rodreick as a fixated pedophile and said that his sentencing should be longer. “I find your conduct appalling—these were volitional choices you made, consistently deceitful, dishonest, manipulative,” said the judge to Rodreick, adding “I think you represent a danger to the community; you in particular are dangerous to children.”

Prosecuting attorney Sheila Polk expressed satisfaction with the sentence Rodreick received, of over 70 years in prison. “This case involved some dangerous sexual predators, and they are now off the streets of Yavapai County,” she said, since 31-year-old will likely spend his entire life behind bars.

The schools Rodreick posed in were located in Surprise, Payson and Prescott Valley, and the charade started as early as 2005. Authorities reported that Rodreick shaved and used makeup in order to convince his teachers that he was a preteen boy named Casey.

In January of 2007, Rodreick was exposed at the Chino Valley schools where he was enrolled as a seventh grader. School officials were suspicious of his birth certificates and other important documents because they looked forged. Their first thoughts was he was an abducted child.

Children in the schools had not experienced any physical harm as a result of the sham, but officials did find an extensive amount of child pornography on Rodreick’s home computer.

Others convicted were Brian J. Nellis, 36, who posed as Rodreick’s cousin, and two older men who posed as their uncle and grandfather. Robert James Snow, 46, and Lonnie Eugene Stiffler, 63, met Rodreick online, believing he was a preteen, and carried on a sexual relationship with him.

Snow, Stiffler, and Nellis were indicted on many charges, including child pornography and forgery. Nellis and Snow, previously convicted sex offenders, were also charged with failing to register with authorities.

Stiffler was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Snow received 22 years and Nellis received 51 years with no chance of parole.

Rodreick had previously been convicted in Oklahoma in 1996 for lewdly propositioning a 6-year-old-boy. He spent six years in prison for that crime.
