G’n’R Threatens Lawsuit Over Dr Pepper

Popular rock band Guns ‘n’ Roses has threatened to sue the soft drink manufacturer of Dr Pepper over a glitch that resulted in Americans all over the country missing out on a free can of the soft drink as part of a promo.

In March of this year Dr Pepper promised every single American a free can of its drink if the rock bank released its album, Chinese Democracy, before the end of this year. The band released the album on November 23rd, and the drinks firm promised a can of drink to everyone that visited the website on the album release date.

However, due to high traffic volumes the website crashed on the day, leaving many unable to get their freebie. As a result of this Dr Pepper extended the offer by an extra day, but according to reports the website was still inaccessible, so this made no difference.

A lawyer for the frontman, Axl Rose, said that the campaign had been “exploitation of my clients’ legendary reputation.” He added in a letter to Dr Pepper: “Had you wished to engage in a commercial tie-in with our clients, you should have negotiated a legitimate arrangement instead of hijacking their rights without payment. Rest assured, this misappropriation will not be free.”
