Hotel Owners Being Sued Over Discrimination

Former Ocean City hotel owners are being sued over alleged discrimination, with accusations that they discriminated against employees based on their ethnicity. The lawsuit has been filed against the former owners of the Best Western Motel and Suites on 55th Street in Ocean City.

According to a report from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the general manager allegedly stated that she ‘did not want foreigners working at the hotel’. It is alleged that one employee was fired after she refused to terminate the employment of three Russian workers at the hotel.

The woman that was fired, Cheryl Gully, also claims that she was ‘blackballed’ for refusing to sack the employees. One official commended her for standing up for others’ rights, stating: “I think she was a very strong person because jobs are hard to come by in Ocean City at any time. She had to be very strong and loved her kids. I just think she was a very strong person.” The lawsuit alleges that the incident caused Gully humiliation, depression, anxiety, emotional pain, and suffering. The former hotel owners have not commented on the lawsuit.
