Soldiers Sue Defence Contractor

According to a recent report sixteen American soldiers that served in Iraq have filed a lawsuit against KBR, which is the defence contractor. KBR is accused of knowingly exposing the soldiers to a cancer causing chemical, with the soldiers claiming that the exposure occurred when they were working at a water pumping plant in Iraq.
According to the lawsuit KBR was aware of the risks posed to the soldiers but decided to disregard this. KBR has denied the allegations that were made in the lawsuit, and has stated that it will fight the lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed in a US District Court.

The claims in the lawsuit go back to 2003, with the soldiers claiming that KBR knew about the dangers in around May of that same year. However, the soldiers were allegedly told on a number of occasions that there was no danger, even when they reported problems such as having regular nose bleeds.

The lawsuit said that symptoms such as these were early reactions to the chemical, but the soldiers were simply told that they were probably just allergic to the sand.
