The family of a math teacher who was killed in an incident involving a truck are filing a lawsuit against the truck company involved and the driver of the truck. The lawsuit is being filed against Schneider National Carrier Inc. of Gary and its driver, Justin R. Wallace of Pennsylvania.

The fifty nine year old teacher had worked at Gary Roosevelt High School. She died after a truck rear-ended her vehicle. An attorney for the family said that the death was “clearly avoidable” and resulted from “negligence.” He added: “We are trying to protect this family’s right to know the truth. This was a tragedy for the family and the community.”

The teacher’s vehicle had been stopped at a signal light when it was ‘violently’ hit by the tractor trailer driven by the defendant. The incident occurred in Columbia City in May.

The family attorney went on to state: “We intend to hold the responsible defendants fully accountable for the harm they caused. She was a gifted teacher who inspired her students to do better, and she will be missed.”
