Movie mogul Woody Allen is suing American Apparel for a whopping ten million dollars as a result of alleged unauthorized advertising. According to a recent report the company used an image of Allen dressed as a Rabbi on billboards and online platforms.

The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court in Manhattan, and claims that the company launched a campaign using an image of the movie star dressed as a Rabbi in New York and in California. The Los Angeles based retailer is said to have run the campaign in May 2007, and Allen says that they did this without his permission.

The image used is said to be from one of Woody Allen’s movies, and was accompanied by Yiddish text. The image also appeared on the company’s website, as well as on advertisements that appeared on other websites according to the report.

The lawsuit stated: “Allen was unaware that AAI was going to utilize his image on its billboard and Web site. Allen was not contacted, nor did he in any way give his consent to the use of his image and likeness, and he was not in any way compensated for the same, either prior to the infringement or thereafter.”
