A man, who claims that officers shot at him because they thought that his prosthetic leg was a weapon, is suing the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Department. The East Kentucky man claims that he was shot at by two deputies because they thought that his prosthetic leg was some sort of weapon.According to the plaintiff, Robert Shane Brewer Jr, said that the incident occurred in September, when he was sitting under a tree at a farm close to his home. He had propped his prosthetic leg up against the tree. He stated that he was then approached by two officers who had received a call about a trespasser.

The officers apparently told Brewer to get out from under the tree and to drop his weapon. He claims that he shouted to the officers that he had no weapon, but when he turned to face them they started shooting at him without any warning.

According to another report police had stated that Brewer had been drunk and had been threatening police officers. However, an attorney representing the plaintiff stated that he had not made threats and had not weapon. He said that the officers had seriously over-reacted.
