Woman Sues Pawtucket Over Shooting

A woman is suing the city of Pawtucket following an incident where the father of her son was shot dead by a city police officer. She claims in her lawsuit that officers were not trained to deal with people with mental problems, and claims that the police officers were too aggressive.

The father of her son, Jason Swift, died after being shot by an officer during a struggle in his apartment back in February of this year. Noelle Farry, the mother of the child, filed the lawsuit after notifying the city of her intention to sue in July.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, according to recent reports. The report claims that the incident was sparked after Mr Swift’s mother called 911 to say that her son had lost control of his mind.

The lawsuit also states that whilst Swift cooperated with police, dropped his weapon and put his hands against a fence as requested, he then panicked and struggled when officers tried to restrain him. He ran back into the apartment and police found him naked, kneeling on the floor, unarmed. However, another struggle ensued and the man was shot twice by an officer.
