Dog Treat Manufacturer Settles Lawsuit

The manufacturer of a popular dog treat has settled a class action lawsuit that was filed against it. Kansas based manufacturer S&M NuTec manufactures Greenies dog treats, but the class action lawsuit was filed against the company after it was claimed that the treats, designed to clean animals’ teeth, actually injured or killed nearly a dozen dogs.

Ten dog owners filed the class action lawsuit. A lawyer working on behalf of the plaintiffs confirmed that a settlement had been reached but did not disclose details of the settlement. She simply stated: “All issues between the parties have been resolved.”

Reports of dogs choking on the popular treats began to emerge in 2005. The treats, which have become popular due to their ability to clean dogs’ teeth when they are chewed, had been selling in excess of three hundred million units a year.

In addition to choking reports also claimed that some of the dogs that were injured or killed had suffered damage to their intestines as a result of indigested pieces of the treats.
