Lawsuit Filed over Movie ‘Disturbia’

A lawsuit has been filed over the recent hit movie Disturbia, with attorneys claiming that the movie was simply a rip off of the Alfred Hitchcock blockbuster Rear Window. Officials have said that all the reviews of the movie made reference to Rear Window, and that this was because it was essentially a remake of the classic film.

A copyright infringement lawsuit was filed by attorneys for the estate of the late Sheldon Abend. It claims that Dreamworks Pictures, along with the executive producer Steven Spielberg, and a number of others that were involved in the making of the movie simply remade Rear Window but did not pay for using the material from the original.

According to Reuters the lawsuit states: “What the defendants have been unwilling to do openly, legitimately and legally, (they) have done surreptitiously, by their back-door use of the ‘Rear Window’ story without paying compensation.”

The lawsuit goes on to state: “In the Disturbia film the defendants purposefully employed immaterial variations or transparent rephrasing to produce essentially the same story as the Rear Window story,”
